Personal Profile

Cllr David Renard is married to Bonita (Bonnie) and they have 3 children. David was born, brought up and educated in Croydon, South London in a multi-cultural environment.

He worked for a number of years in retail travel before moving to Swindon in 1990 (having spent 5 years in Bracknell, Berkshire) to work at W H Smith Travel's Head Office at Greenbridge. When the travel business was sold, David was made redundant and he eventually moved into training and development as well as negotiating and print buying. He graduated with the Open University in 1997. He left full-time work to look after their children and since then has worked for Allied Dunbar (briefly) and Swindon College where he lectured in Travel and Tourism until 2004.

He was elected to Swindon Council in 2002 and elevated to Cabinet in 2004 to take on the Housing portfolio. Since then his portfolio grew in 2006 to also include Adult Social Care and Integration with the Health Service. This enlarged workload meant that he now gives this role his full-time commitment.

In 2010 he was asked to take on the Children's Services portfolio which he was delighted to do since Education was the main motivation for standing for Council back in 2002.
