Personal Profile
Cllr Ian Dobie moved to Swindon for the first time in 1971 to the new Nythe estate, relocating to Upper Stratton in 1979 and most recently to a new property in Abbey Meads in 1996. Born and raised in North London, Ian joined the Royal Air force in 1963 as an Aircraft Apprentice and saw service in many different countries in a career spanning 33 years. Finally retiring at the rank of Sqn Ldr in 1996.
Ian says, "My wife and I first came to Swindon with the RAF when I was stationed at Brize Norton and saw the town as one with tremendous potential for our 2 young sons. We have not been dissappointed and both have all done well".
It was moving to Abbey Meads that started Ian on the road towards standing as a local councillor. Having been a founder member of the Abbey Meads Community Association and its first chairman for 3 years, Ian concluded there was much to do in the local area. To realise the full potential of any area and its residents requires people with good local knowledge, enthusiasm and dedication to work for that end. A good communicator and determined individual who enjoys meeting and working for other people Ian has already achieved much for the Haydon Wick Ward and is always ready to respond to residents enquiries. "I love the challenge of something new and if I don't succeed the first time around I keep at it until I do. The success of Swindon is down to its residents and I see my job as helping them continue that success for themselves and the town".
