Environment Agency to Consult Residents on Flood Relief Options

18 August 2009

We have been pushing the Environment Agency (EA) for the last couple of years to agree to measures to mitigate flooding from the Haydon Brook.

We have been pushing them particularly hard since Thames Water (TW) started their works since we are concerned that the TW improvements will mean that more surface water will go into the Haydon Brook and will be unable to cope.

The EA has carried out some works on the Brook over the last few months but we believe that much more needs to be done to protect our residents as well as those in the neighbouring wards of Moredon and Abbey Meads.

We are delighted that the EA is now coming forward with some options which it is going to consult with residents on. The plans will be on display at the Haydon Wick Parish Council offices between 20 August and 3 September during the hours of 0900 and 1600, Monday to Friday and EA officers will be available to discuss any issues.

Cllr David Renard said "We have been concerned that the EA was not moving quickly enough to help protect our residents but are delighted that residents are now having the opportunity to shape the plans and convince the EA that the work needs to be started as soon as possible. Residents must go to the exhibition and make their views known."

The attached pdf leaflet will be distributed to those residents in the affected areas tomorrow, 19 August.
